Aussies Win Billy Sanders Memorial Pairs

Two Aussies, Rory Schlein and Davey Watt, won the Billy Sanders Memorial Pairs. They finished on the same points as Scott Nicholls and Olly Allen but had beaten them when the two pairs met in heat 9 so were declared the winners.

The evening started with a parade around the stock car track of a large group of former riders that had been close to Billy during his career. They included Tony 'Shrimp' Davey, John Louis, Ron Bagley, Colin Cook, Trevor Jones, Tim Hunt, Ted Howgego, Michael Lee and Jeremy Doncaster. Many of them were interviewed on the infield between the heats to share their personal memories of Billy. Fans were also able to see an excellent exhibition stand provided by Gab Racing - a big thank you to them for bringing the bikes, leathers, racejackets, etc. which brought back so many memories of our 'adopted son'.

The crowd were treated to some excellent racing with plenty of exciting passes throughout the evening and several of the riders said afterwards that it was the best track they had ridden on this season. It was a night to remember for all who attended and a very fitting tribute to 'Billy the Kid'.
