Vital Away Point Gained At Belle Vue

In a very closely fought meeting the Ipswich Witches came extremely close to pulling off an away win at Belle Vue tonight. They managed to get ahead of the home team with a 5-1 in heat three courtesy of Nicholls & Batchelor and maintained a slender lead right up until heat eleven. However Wilkinson suffered an all too familiar engine failure in that heat which allowed Belle Vue to pull back the score in their favour. The next three heats were shared and the home team were one point ahead going into heat fifteen. After a very close start by all four riders Crump fell after getting hooked up on Batchelor's back wheel and was subsequently taken to hospital with a suspected dislocated shoulder. In the re-run Kasprzak shot away from the tapes and despite a valiant effort by Nicholls to chase him down his three points were enough for Belle Vue to take the win. Ipswich did however gain a league point for keeping the scoreline so close. Belle Vue are now joint bottom in the league table with Poole but unlike their relegation rivals have one remaining fixture available to score further league points - it is against Ipswich again, at home, on 28th September.
