Weakened Eagles Steal A Point At Foxhall

Ipswich Witches won the meeting last night but failed to win by the required 7+ points to take all three league points, against a weakened Eagles team.

From the first heat there were signs that the Eagles were not going to be the easy target that their line-up suggested. Reserve Simon Gustaffson taking a rider replacement ride roared from the tapes and took the chequered flag ahead of Scott & Olly, smashing the track record in the process. Heat two saw the visiting reserves pick up a 4-2 followed by Danny & Claus hitting back with a 5-1 in heat three. After a shared heat four the Eagles pairing of Zagar & Gustaffson scored a 5-1 of their own and they inched ahead again. Two more shared heats followed and then Olly & Linus pulled the scores back level in heat eight.

After pulling ahead again in heat ten it was looking good for the Witches in heat eleven but after initially leading, Robert ground to a halt on lap three and the Eagles pulled it back again. Danny & Linus teamed up for a 5-1 in heat ten and then Robert pulled off a breahtaking ride in heat thirteen to hold off Zagar to follow Scott home for a second 5-1. The three league points were now there for the taking but the Eagles pairing of Schramm & Woodward had other ideas gaining a maximum heat win in heat fourteen. Scott & Robert lined up for heat fifteen knowing that they needed to repeat their heroics of heat thirteen but when the tapes rose it was Zagar who popped out ahead and Scott was unable to overhaul him. Witches fans were left wondering why visiting teams still appear to be more comfortable on the new Foxhall track than several of the home team riders...
